Lobachevsky satellite wins the Nizhny Novgorod Award

The team from Lobachevsky University has been honoured with a distinguished regional award. The project to develop and operate the Lobachevsky spacecraft received high marks from the expert jury and took first place in the Innovation and Digital Technologies category.

The award was presented to the project team led by Maxim Zharkov, Deputy Head of the Department for Working with Talented Youth at UNN. The expert community highlighted the contribution of Lobachevsky University to advancing technological initiatives in the region and its systematic work with the younger generation in the field of space technology.

The Lobachevsky satellite was launched into orbit in December 2025. The spacecraft is equipped with spectral cameras for monitoring the Earth's vegetation cover. The satellite imagery obtained allows for assessing the condition of forests and agricultural lands. In April 2026, eight Russian universities and the Geoscan aerospace company formed a research consortium to jointly use the satellite images obtained from the Lobachevsky satellite for scientific and educational purposes.
