Lobachevsky University and Xidian University sign cooperation agreements
The signing ceremony of cooperation agreements between Lobachevsky University and Xidian University (China) was held online on February 14. Elena Zagaynova, Rector of Lobachevsky University, and Zhang Xinliang, President of Xidian University, signed the agreements on cooperation in education and science, as well as on academic exchanges of students.
Under the agreements, the universities will hold conferences, scientific seminars, develop academic mobility, double degree programmes, summer and winter schools, and take part in joint research projects.
"Lobachevsky University’s network of partners abroad includes over 150 foreign universities and research organisations. We are very pleased that our new partner is Xidian University, one of the flagships of higher education in China in the field of information technology. I must say that the IT sphere is a priority for both the Nizhny Novgorod region and UNN, where a world-class IT campus will be created with our direct participation. We have far-reaching plans ahead, and we hope to implement them together," said Elena Zagaynova, Rector of Lobachevsky University.
Lobachevsky University and Xidian University intend to cooperate closely in areas such as software engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning and supercomputing.
According to the agreement on academic mobility of students, the partner universities will send their students and postgraduates to each other every year as part of exchange programmes.
"I am confident that the signing of the agreements will be a new starting point for cooperation between the two universities. Both sides will be able to fully realize the existing advantages, jointly build a cooperation platform, promote mutual professional development through active and effective exchanges, and jointly train outstanding talents that meet the needs of global development," said President of Xidian University Zhang Xinliang.
Implementation of the agreements will start shortly and the first academic exchanges will begin next semester.
Xidian University is one of China’s leading universities. It was founded in 1931. Cooperation and exchange of students between Xidian University and Russian universities started as early as in the 1950s. Over the past few years, around a hundred Russian students have studied and trained at Xidian University.
Over 91 years of the university's history, more than 320,000 highly qualified professionals in the field of electronic information have been trained. The university has established friendly relations with 175 universities and research institutes in 39 countries and regions, including MIPT, Ural Federal University and Novosibirsk State University in Russia. Xidian University has 37,837 students (22,438 undergraduate, 12,666 graduate and 2,733 postgraduate). In 2022, there were 900 international students. The university offers 47 undergraduate programmes, 28 master's programmes, and 12 postgraduate programmes.
