Lobachevsky University Choir to take part in World Choir Games in South Africa
From July 8 to July 16, the Choir of Lobachevsky University under the leadership of Larisa Erykalova will participate in the X World Choir Games-2018 in the South African city of Tshwane. World Choir Games is the largest international choral competition, held every two years in different countries of the world, uniting fans of choral singing from various parts of the globe. The competition has already been held in countries such as Austria, the USA, China, Latvia. In 2016, the competition was hosted by the Olympic city of Sochi. The tenth Choir Games will be held for the first time on the African continent.
This year, 20,000 participants from 50 countries will gather in South Africa. Russia will be represented by 8 teams, including the Choir of Lobachevsky University. Nizhny Novgorod singers will compete in two competition categories: "University Choirs" and "Pop Music".
The Choir's contest program will be first presented at a home concert on July 6 at 7:00 pm in the Old Assembly Hall of the UNN (B. Pokrovskaya St., 37), admission is free.
The Lobachevsky University Choir has a track record of successful trips to the World Choir Games. In 2008 in Graz (Austria), the Choir won a gold and a silver medals, in 2010 in Shaoxing (China) it received two silver medals, in 2012 in Cincinnati (USA) and in 2014 in Riga (Latvia) - two gold medals on each occasion. In 2016 in Sochi, the UNN Choir also won two gold medals and became the first Russian choir to win the title of Champion in the category of popular music. In addition, it is listed among the top 100 best choirs in the INTERKULTUR World Ranking.
