A Framework Cooperation Agreement and a Special Agreement for Cooperation in Education and Science on Academic Mobility of Researchers, Educators and Students entered into force in March 2020. The University of Turin is one of the largest and most prestigious universities in Italy. The University was founded in 1404 and is known for its high-quality educational programs, authoritative research teams  and a high level of graduates' employment. The agreement was signed as a result of fruitful cooperation with Italian colleagues in a multilateral format within the Russian-Italian working group "AGU-CRUI" under the auspices of the Association of Global Universities (AGU) and the Conference of Rectors of Italian universities (CRUI). In particular, the University of Turin as one of the most active participants of the group in May 2019 became the venue for the international theoretical and practical conference "Sustainability Agenda - 2035", which coincided with the regular meeting of the working group. It was during the conference that agreements were reached to develop cooperation between  Lobachevsky University and Italian colleagues in Turin.

Now the parties can develop cooperation in the field of research and education, international academic mobility, they can organize joint conferences and seminars. At Lobachevsky University, these opportunities open up for the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Institute of International Relations and World History. It should be noted that traditionally the selection of candidates for academic mobility programs is organized by the International Office of the Department of International Affairs twice a year (for autumn and spring semesters). Up-to-date information is posted on the Lobachevsky University website and on the website of the UNN Department of International Affairs.

Lobachevsky University has been cooperating with a number of Italian universities for more than 25 years. In 2019, the Russian-Italian University project being successfully implemented with the University of Calabria marked its 25th anniversary. The UNN has a double-degree program with the University of Siena and a joint (co-tutelle) PhD program with the University of Palermo. The list of Italian partners in academic mobility programs continues to expand. In particular, cooperation with the University of Bologna and the Ca' Foscari University of Venice began in 2019. Research cooperation with Italian colleagues is carried out within the framework of the Horizon-2020 Project “The European Paediatric Translational Research Infrastructure (EPTRI)”. Lobachevsky University is also developing cooperation with representatives of Italian industry, in particular, with the Danieli Volga company.
