Lobachevsky University expands cooperation with Lebanon
From March 25 to March 29, Konstantin Kemaev, Head of the UNN Center for Examination of Foreign Documents on Education, visited the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Lebanese Republic (Beirut). During the meetings that were held with the Head of the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo, Vadim Zaychikov, the Deputy Head of the Representative Office, Denis Knyshev, and the Head of the Education Department, Larisa Shokor, bilateral cooperation in several areas was discussed.
Possible cooperation areas include, in particular, UNN participation in exhibitions organized by Rossotrudnichestvo in Lebanon and Syria, attracting and selecting Lebanese applicants for training under the intergovernmental quota of the Russian Federation and on a contract basis, promoting the Russian language in Lebanon, implementing joint supplementary education programs in the fields of medicine, biology and engineering at the Russian Science and Culture Center (RCSC) and cooperation through the International Network Institute of Rosfinmonitoring.
With the assistance of the Rossotrudnichestvo Representation, visits to university campuses of leading Lebanese universities were organized and negotiations were held with the Vice-President of the Lebanese International University Dr. Ali Tarabai and the President of the Phoenician University Dr. Imad Zbib. The Lebanese side showed great interest in student exchanges and inviting UNN teachers to Lebanon for lectures and joint research. Also, Lebanese colleagues were interested in the opportunity to send their students to summer schools, to Master’s and postgraduate programs at Lobachevsky University.
At the RCSC, a meeting was held with the leadership of the Lebanese Club of Graduates of Russian Universities, and a visit to the Lebanese Association of Graduates of Russian Universities was organized. Issues of cultural and educational cooperation and promotion of educational programs of UNN through a network of Russian-Lebanese houses of friendship were discussed.
At the end of the visit, the representatives of the RCSC and UNN visited Amjad Secondary School, the largest private school in Lebanon. During a meeting with the school director Walid Zubian, they discussed a wide range of possible areas of cooperation: conducting presentations, exhibitions, scientific and educational events at the school, introduction of Russian language as a foreign language, the possibility of implementing joint school-based educational programs, the cooperation of the Amjad school with educational organizations of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
