Elena Zagaynova, Rector of Lobachevsky University, and Alexander Bedny, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, took part in the Third Russian-Uzbek Educational Forum "Integration of Education, Production and Science - the Driver of Academic Effectiveness" which was held on October 26-27 at Samarkand State University (Uzbekistan). The event was organised by the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Russian Union of Rectors, the Russian Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Vocational Education of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Pre-School Education of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan. The Forum was attended by more than 300 heads of science and education organisations, research and technology companies, and representatives of ministries and departments of the two countries.

On the margins of the forum, Elena Zagaynova made a presentation on Lobachevsky University’s experience in academic interaction with its Uzbek partners and invited forum participants to take part in UNN’s major research and educational initiatives - such as the educational conference "VolgaEdu Forum" to be held in May 2023. Representatives of Lobachevsky University took part in the discussion of the key areas of Russian-Uzbek cooperation in training personnel for higher education and science, academic cooperation, humanitarian projects, development of the network of branches of Russian universities in Uzbekistan and joint educational programmes.

Lobachevsky University’s network of partners in Uzbekistan was further extended by signing agreements on cooperation and academic exchanges with the Fergana State University and the Urgench branch of the Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad Al-Khwarizmi.

The Education Forum continued the tradition of meetings between higher education leaders of the two countries. The First Russian-Uzbek Education Forum was held in October 2018 in Tashkent; the venue for the Second Forum in November 2021 was Lomonosov Moscow State University.
