A revised edition of the Red Book of rare and endangered animals has been published in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The document reflects the current state of populations, gives an updated list of protected species, and outlines priority areas for environmental conservation efforts in the region.

Taking part in the preparation of the publication were representatives from the UNN Institute of Biology and Biomedicine. Associate Professor Mikhail Sidorenko from the Department of Ecology acted as an expert on rare and endangered arachnid species in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Other contributors included staff members from the Department of Botany and Zoology:  Associate Professor Olga Noskova, Associate Professor Vladimir Zryanin, Senior Lecturer Alexey Mukhanov, and Senior Lecturer Tatiana Khrynova, who also serves as the Deputy Director of the UNN Botanical Garden.

The Red Book of the Nizhny Novgorod region has been a key tool for biodiversity conservation for nearly 30 years. It enables the tracking of population dynamics of rare and vulnerable species, analysis of changes in their habitats, and the formulation of scientifically grounded conservation measures. The updated edition can be accessed online via the official portal of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
