On May 9, 2018, Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod was ranked among the top 300 in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies University Rankings 2018. In total, 27 Russian universities were listed in the rating, 17 of them represent the 5-100 Academic Excellence Project. Among Russian universities, the first place is held by the Lomonosov Moscow State University, which ranks third in the overall THE rating. The second and third places among Russian universities are occupied by the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (11th position) and the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (19th position) that also participate in the 5-100 Project. Lobachevsky University’s position is in the range 251-300 (the 16th place among Russian universities).
Institutions from 42 countries classified as emerging economies, including China, India, South Africa, Brazil, Turkey, Qatar, Cyprus, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, etc., made the final top 378 list. The ranking uses the same 13 rigorous performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings, examining each university's strengths
against all of its core missions - teaching, research, knowledge
transfer and international outlook.
