In the newly published ranking of Times Higher Education (THE), Lobachevsky University is listed at the 801+ position, and according to the criterion "Education" it entered the top 500 best universities in the world.  UNN ranked 13th among Russian universities. As a result of the ranking research and hard competitive selection, the final list includes 980 universities from 79 countries, with 24 Russian universities in this number. The Lomonosov Moscow State University that occupies the 188th position was once again ranked highest among the Russian universities. According to Phil Baty, THE rankings editor, it is great news that Russian universities take 24 places this year in the extended list of the world's best universities. However, he said, it will be difficult to implement ambitious plans for 5 Russian universities to enter the top 100 best universities of the world by 2020. To achieve this goal, Russia will have to work hard to improve its universities as they face fierce global competition.

According to UNN Rector Professor Evgeny Chuprunov, the fact that Lobachevsky University for the first time entered the Times Higher Education top list of the world's best universities means that education and research are developing at the university in line with the world's highest standards. "Entirely new conditions and opportunities have been created for students and staff in the implementation of their research, educational and innovative potential through our participation in the Russian Academic Excellence Project. We are continuing our long-term work aimed at improving our performance in all areas. We have set ourselves the goal to enter the top 100 best universities in the world by 2020", - said Evgeny Chuprunov.
