The Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media jointly with the Analytical Centre under the Government of the Russian Federation have announced the results of the competitive selection of universities to receive grants for launching advanced IT education. Lobachevsky University was one of 50 Russian universities that applied for participation and was named among the winners of the competition.
In terms of the number of points in the final evaluation, Lobachevsky University's application became the seventh in the list of 26 applications that were supported. Along with Lobachevsky University, the list of the top ten winners also includes Innopolis University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, ITMO University, St. Petersburg State University, Higher School of Economics, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Gagarin Saratov State Technical University, MEPhI University, and Moscow Aviation Institute.
The aim of the competition is to train advanced IT professionals who will be able to solve complex problems and rapidly progress in their field. The main condition for universities was to cooperate with companies in training students and to attract co-funding in the amount of at least 30% of the grants.
"Lobachevsky University is one of the winners of the competitive selection for obtaining subsidies to develop programmes and train top-level IT professionals. From September 2025, the UNN Institute of Information Technology, Mathematics and Mechanics will start training professionals in new educational programmes in artificial intelligence, as well as in system, applied and industrial programming. One of the mandatory conditions of this competition was the involvement of industry partners, since IT companies guarantee the demand for and relevance of educational programmes. We have reliable partners with whom we have already built close relations: Yadro, 1C, Yandex, T1", said Nikolai Zolotykh, Director of the UNN Institute of Information Technology, Mathematics and Mechanics.
The amount of subsidies that UNN will receive during the period from 2025 to 2027 amounts to more than 60 million roubles.
