The Institute of Biology and Biomedicine of Lobachevsky University has obtained licences for three residency specialties — “Cardiology“, “Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine“ and “Orthopaedic Dentistry“.

According to UNN Rector Elena Zagaynova, there are plans to increase the pool of medical specialties for residency training, as they have been in high demand.

Evgeny Shlyakhto, Director General of the Almazov National Medical Research Centre and Chief Supervising Cardiologist of the Russian Ministry of Health, spoke about the shortage of cardiologists during his visit to the Nizhny Novgorod region. Lobachevsky University stepped in to fill the demand for qualified medical specialists in Nizhny Novgorod's healthcare system.

Nizhny Novgorod Hospitals No. 5 and No. 13 will become clinical sites for training cardiologists. Future intensive care specialists will be trained jointly with the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia and the regional oncological centre.

Enrolment for the new specialties will begin in 2023. The UNN Institute of Biology and Biomedicine also plans to open a residency programme in rheumatology.
