Lobachevsky University opens its doors to 7173 students from Russia’s 83 regions

On 2 September, a festive ceremony was held on the UNN campus to mark the beginning of the new academic year. The event was attended by first-year students, representatives of student associations, university staff and faculty, and guests of honour.

After the ceremonial presentation of the National Flag and singing of the anthem of the Russian Federation, UNN Rector Oleg Trofimov addressed the audience:

"The beginning of the new academic year is the major holiday in the life of the University. This year Lobachevsky University has set a record in the number of students enrolled for state-funded places - 3 869 persons. And today we open our doors for 7173 students from 83 regions of our country. Traditionally, there are a lot of students from foreign countries wishing to study at our university. The admission of international students is not over yet, we will summarise the results at the end of autumn, but the trend of recent years is that the interest of international students to receiving education at UNN is consistently high. Thank you to all our students for your choice, for your trust, for the best years of your lives you will spend within the walls of Lobachevsky University. Good luck in your studies!"

During the ceremony, the deans and directors of the university's faculties and institutes were introduced to the first-year students. The celebration concluded with a colourful "Cossack Dance" performed by Varvara Zakharova, a student of the Institute of International Relations and World History, and collective rendition of the song "Russia", in which students, staff members and the UNN academic choir took part.

According to the results of the admission campaign for the 2024-2025 academic year, the top 3 fields of study at Lobachevsky University with the highest number of applications  were "Applied Mathematics and Informatics", "Applied Informatics" and "Law".
