Sergei Parin, Professor of the Department of Psychophysiology at the UNN Faculty of Social Sciences, Doctor of Sciences (Biology), has been elected President of the Interdisciplinary Association for Cognitive Studies (IACS) by an absolute majority of votes.

“Cognitive research is currently of high priority in the world. This includes the tasks of creating artificial intelligence, the problems of managing public consciousness, the issues of developing health-saving technologies in the mental sphere, and the development of effective educational methods and technologies”, said Sergei Parin.

Professor Parin pointed out that his election to this post was a great privilege and a huge responsibility.

“The tasks of the new IACS management include organising the 11th International Conference on Cognitive Science and a number of satellite conferences and symposia at Lobachevsky University in 2026, launching a specialised journal on cognitive research, strengthening interaction between scientists involved in brain and consciousness research, informing the research community about the current state of affairs in Russian and foreign cognitive science and attracting young scientists to this field. In our endeavours we very much hope for effective support of this priority direction from the leadership of Lobachevsky University and the Nizhny Novgorod region”, Sergei Parin added.

The Interdisciplinary Association for Cognitive Studies is a public organisation that brings together experts in the study of various aspects of consciousness: neurobiologists, physicists, mathematicians, medical scientists, linguists, psychologists, political scientists, ethologists, and philosophers. The Association includes leading scientists of the Russian Federation and neighbouring countries. Since 2008, the Interdisciplinary Association for Cognitive Studies has been organising biennial representative international conferences with participation of the world's leading cognitive scientists. IACS also carries out organisational, publishing and educational activities.
