Lobachevsky University ranked among top 100 universities in BRICS countries
The BRICS University Rectors Forum being held in Moscow on October 17-18 will present a new university ranking prepared by the Association of Ranking Compilers. The ranking will be one of the first elements of a comprehensive system for evaluating BRICS universities. Representatives of the BRICS countries have repeatedly expressed their interest in such a system. The BRICS universities were assessed using the “Three University Missions” global ranking approaches based on verifiable objective indicators and excluding subjective assessments by experts.
Lobachevsky University ranked 85th out of 600 participants in the pilot ranking of universities in BRICS countries. Among Russian universities, UNN ranked 19th out of 161 participants.
The short list of the ranking included 825 universities representing ten countries: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Egypt, India, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. The list contains universities that are top-ranked in global academic rankings or top-ranked in national lists. The final ranking includes 600 of the best BRICS universities. Only objective criteria approved by international experts were used to compile the ranking; reputational surveys were completely excluded.
The ranking was compiled using open data from official websites of universities and national authorities, as well as data from independent international sources: the largest aggregator of online course platforms Class Central; mass education platforms Open Education (Russia) and icourse163.org (China); publicly available multilingual universal encyclopedia Wikipedia; search engines Google, Yandex, Baidu; social networks and websites of universities; websites of international student competitions; bibliometric data providers; websites of academic awards from the IREG List of International Academic Awards.
