Lobachevsky University represented at Russian Supercomputing Days
Representatives of the UNN Institute of Information Technology, Mathematics and Mechanics (IITMM) took part in Russian Supercomputing Days, one of Europe’s largest conferences on supercomputing.
This year more than 300 representatives of universities, RAS institutes and IT companies took part in the conference. In their reports, IITMM researchers presented the latest achievements of the Institute's research groups in the field of using parallel computing technologies for solving global optimisation problems, for supercomputer modelling in laser physics and quantum dynamics.
Two young participants of the conference received the prize named after Professor V.P. Gergel, the first Director of the UNN Institute of Information Technology, Mathematics and Mechanics, a recognised expert in the field of high-performance parallel computing. This year, the prize was awarded to Ya.Kraeva, a postgraduate student of the South Ural State University, for her paper "Anomaly search in large time series on a cluster with GPU nodes", and D.Saidbatalov, a research intern at the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, for his paper "Analysis of scalability of parallel implementation of the grid-characteristic method for solving elastic wave propagation problems".
A book dedicated to the memory of Professor V.P. Gergel was also presented at the conference.
During the conference, two research workshops were organised and held by the staff of the UNN Institute of Information Technology, Mathematics and Mechanics. The first workshop, which has already become traditional, was devoted to the problems of education in the field of parallel computing. It was presented by Professor Konstantin Barkalov.
The second workshop was held for the first time and was focused on programming for the new RISC-V architecture processors. The workshop was conducted by Associate Professor Iosif Meyerov together with colleagues from the industry. More than 50 scientists took part in the workshops.
The prize for the best poster presentation at the conference was awarded to a team of researchers from IITMM and IAP RAS including V. Volokitin, A. Bashinov, A. Muravyov, E. Efimenko, and I. Meyerov for their joint paper on methods of modelling electromagnetic cascades.
