Lobachevsky UniverSum international exhibition and fair of national cultures
On November 14, UNN hosted the Lobachevsky UniverSum international exhibition and fair of national cultures. It was organised by the UNN International Students Support Office and by active international students of Lobachevsky University. Over 500 people visited the exhibition, including international and Russian students from UNN and other universities in Nizhny Novgorod, as well as about 50 participants of the "School of the Young Diplomat" project.
The Lobachevsky UniverSum international exhibition and fair of national cultures has been held at Lobachevsky University since 2018. The event is part of the "I care - I can" social initiatives programme of UNN international students. This year, it marked the 20th anniversary of the international student education system at Lobachevsky University.
During the day, participants took part in a variety of masterclasses, including henna painting, linguistics, creating traditional bracelets, painting wooden plaques, braiding, origami crafts, and learning about national dances. The fair also featured a range of national dishes from the participating countries, including Brazil, Iran, Iraq, India, Vietnam, and Turkmenistan, among others. A total of 16 different countries were represented at the event.
Alexander Bedny, UNN Vice Rector for Strategic Development and International Affairs, welcomed the guests:
"Today we have a grand celebration. The opportunity to walk through the exhibition and visit different parts of the world, experiencing the uniqueness and diversity of cultures, is truly worth it. This year marks a special occasion for Lobachevsky University as we will soon celebrate our 110th anniversary and in 2025 we mark the 20th anniversary since international students began studying with us. We are proud and grateful for the fact that students from different countries choose to come to our university. At present, students from nearly 100 countries are studying at the university, and this is a great opportunity for everyone to experience the international atmosphere, richness and diversity of world cultures. The festival of cultures, which we are holding today for the seventh time, has already become a tradition at UNN. I wish you to receive positive emotions from every day at our university."
The fair concluded with a concert prepared by international students of Lobachevsky University. Around 20 dance, vocal, and instrumental performances were presented to the guests.
"In 2018, an international student club was established at our University. This association was created to help everyone who enters the university feel welcome and at home. This applies not only to students from other countries, but also to Russian students. If you feel comfortable and welcome, you want to share that with others. This festival provides a unique opportunity to share your emotions and warmth with everyone, to warm others' hearts. We strive for unity," said Dmitry Medvedev, Head of the UNN International Students Support Office.
