New challenges of the modern world dictate new approaches and requirements for higher education. In this vein,  the year 2020 was marked  for the Institute of Philology and Journalism of Lobachevsky University by the creation of a new Master's programme in eco-journalism.  The programme that will be open to all interested students was developed by Lobachevsky University in cooperation with the charitable  environmental foundation «Civilization». This area of study is completely new and Lobachevsky University is the first university in Russia to launch this type of Master's programme.

Starting from 2021,  the Institute of Philology and Journalism will train professionals possessing competencies at the junction of two fields of knowledge: ecology and journalism.

"The programme includes training in digital communications, print media, television, as well as promotion of environmental issues in social networks. It is clear that journalists must know how to write about ecology. This is an area where superficial knowledge will not suffice. Here, systems approach and, consequently, systematized training is required," says Associate Professor Lyudmila Makarova, Deputy Director of the UNN Institute of Philology and Journalism.
