On December 12, a working meeting of the delegation from the Republic of Moldova with the representatives of Lobachevsky University took place at UNN. The meeting was attended by Vladimir Prelov, Deputy Minister of International and Interregional Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Alexander Bedny, Vice-Rector for International Affairs and External Communications, Konstantin Kemaev, Head of the UNN International Cooperation Department, and Maxim Moroshan, Municipal Councillor of Bălți, Republic of Moldova.

During the visit, the guest was briefed on the history of Lobachevsky University, the main educational programmes implemented by the university, and how graduates of Russian-speaking Moldovan schools can enter UNN to pursue their studies.

According to Alexander Bedny, Vice-Rector for International Affairs and External Communications, starting from 2015, the Republic of Moldova and Lobachevsky University have had quite warm twinning relations.

“At present, 10 citizens from the Republic of Moldova are studying at our university in different fields. Most of the students were admitted to our university under the government quota. We will be glad and will make every effort to increase the number of applicants from your republic every year”,  said Alexander Bedny.

Konstantin Kemaev, Head of the International Cooperation Department, told the guest about the rules of admission of foreign citizens to Lobachevsky University, about the most popular areas of study for foreign applicants and about the competitions and olympiads organised by the university.

In his turn, Maxim Moroshan, Municipal Councillor of Bălți, thanked the representatives of Lobachevsky University for the warm welcome and expressed hope for further development of cooperation in the field of education.

“I hope that during today's meeting we managed to find common ground on the key and most relevant issues for both sides. Our negotiations on attracting Moldovan students to Lobachevsky University will continue, and our long-standing cultural and educational ties will not be interrupted under any circumstances,” he emphasised.

Lobachevsky University has been cooperating with the Republic of Moldova since 2015. Its partner university in Moldova is the Alecu Russo State University of Bălți. Currently, the cooperation is implemented through the work of the Russian Centre at the Moldovan university (including participation in the Lobachevsky/RU Olympiad, conferences, online events). UNN also cooperates with the Russian House in Chisinau through the Working Group for selecting candidates for education within the quota established by the Government of the Russian Federation.
