The finals of the 21st Lelyukh Informatics Olympiad for school students took place in Nizhny Novgorod. More than 20 years ago, Vladimir Lelyukh, Associate Professor of the UNN Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, the founder of the Nizhny Novgorod school of olympiad programming, initiated the traditional competition in algorithmic programming among students of Nizhny Novgorod schools. The Olympiad consists of a qualifying round and finals. More than 150 persons competed in the qualifying round and 84 school students took part in the finals. This year, the co-organisers of the Olympiad were Lobachevsky University, Neimark IT Campus and School 21 in Nizhny Novgorod. The partners of the Olympiad were the Globus and Yadro IT companies.

“Thanks to the strong school of algorithmic olympiad programming laid down by Vladimir Lelyukh, in recent years Russian and international olympiads and IT competitions are always attended by participants from Nizhny Novgorod, who never fail to get a place on the podium. That is why today it is especially pleasant to see that our young talents, like real Olympians, keep themselves in good shape by participating in such friendly competitions. The City Algorithmic Programming Olympiad is a step towards even more prestigious competitions, new skills and success in digital professions,” said Ekaterina Solntseva, Deputy Chairperson of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod region, speaking at the awarding ceremony.

This year, the winner and the holder of the 1st degree diploma for participation in the 21st Nizhny Novgorod Olympiad in Informatics is Andrei Lashkin, an 8th grade student of Sarov Lyceum No. 3. This is his second time participating in this Olympiad, a year ago he took the second place. Andrei has long been interested in olympiad mathematics, and since the 4th grade he has been keen on algorithmic programming. He plans to study for an IT degree, but he has not yet decided which university he will attend.

“A strong IT school has developed in the Nizhny Novgorod region. It was due, among other things, to talented and caring people who were eager to pass on IT knowledge to their students and followers. Vladimir Lelyukh was just such a person. Today we continue these traditions by holding such Olympiads and launching new training programmes in order to raise a new generation of in-demand professionals in the digital field,” said Alexei Khabibulin, Head of the Pre-University and Olympiad Training Directorate of the Neimark IT Campus.

The Institute of Information Technology, Mathematics and Mechanics of Lobachevsky University continues the traditions of developing olympiad programming established at the UNN Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics.

“The Lelyukh Informatics Olympiad is quite a serious contest, with good, challenging tasks. It is created in the spirit of ICPC - the International Collegiate Championship in Sports Programming, where the best young programmers of the world compete every year. This competition is a  trademark of our university and of our region. Undoubtedly, such Olympiads attract applicants to enter Nizhny Novgorod universities. Vadim Lelyukh is a legend in the field of olympiad programming. Back in the 1990s, he started leading a club for schoolchildren in olympiad informatics at our university and achieved remarkable results. Now we are already professionally engaged in preparing students for Olympiads. One of the most outstanding achievements of Lobachevsky University is the victory in the World Championship in sports programming among student teams in 2021”, said Nikolay Zolotykh, Director of the UNN Institute of Information Technology, Mathematics and Mechanics.

“The Lelyukh Informatics Olympiad is not just a competition, but a launching pad for future IT geniuses. In a world where technology determines the development of society, such events help to discover talents, give young minds a chance to make a name for themselves and take their first step towards an outstanding career in IT. We are proud to support this movement and train a new generation of professionals capable of solving problems of any complexity. I am sure that among the participants are those who will change our region’s digital landscape,” said Alexander Peresypkin, Director of the School 21 campus in Nizhny Novgorod.
