Lobachevsky University is one of the winners in the All-Russian competition organised by the  Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media in the fields of "Top-IT" and "Top-AI". The competition was aimed at developing advanced educational programmes to train highly qualified IT professionals. Out of 50 universities that participated, UNN took the honourable 7th place. This achievement gave the university the opportunity to receive state funding for the development and implementation of IT training programmes.

In September 2025, the UNN Institute of Information Technology, Mathematics and Mechanics (IITMM) will start training in three new programmes: mathematical modelling and artificial intelligence, system programming, and industrial and applied programming.

As part of this project, at least 100 students will be enrolled, who will have the level of a middle developer by the time they complete their studies. A unique aspect of these programmes is their strong integration with industry, as a key condition for participating in the competition was the active engagement of leading IT companies in the training process.

UNN already has strong partnerships with Yadro, Yandex, 1C, and T1 Holding. These companies directly contribute to the development of curricula,  providing real-world case studies for practical work, organising industrial training grounds, and providing expert support. Their employees give lectures, conduct practical classes, and supervise student interns.

Students start their industry experience in their first year of study, and by the end of their third year, they have the opportunity to complete an internship or secure a position as a junior developer at one of our partner companies. This approach allows students not only to learn modern technologies but also to contribute to real projects while still studying.
