The All-Russian conference “New Trends in the Development of School Education in Modern Conditions” was held at Lobachevsky University on December 6. It was hosted by the UNN Institute of Philology and Journalism for the second time. The event was organised by the UNN Faculty of Professional Development and Professional Retraining.

The conference's highlight was the discussion panel on new trends in the development of school education in modern conditions. Among the participants of the discussion on important areas of work and problems of interaction between universities and schools were: Evgenia Chernykh, UNN Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty of Law, Yulia Bureeva, Dean of the Faculty of Professional Development and Retraining, Maria Vedunova, Director of the Institute of Biology and Biomedicine, Larisa Zhukovskaya, Director of the Institute of Philology and Journalism, and Alexey Markin, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry.

“Higher education institutions cannot exist in isolation from schools, because the young people who graduate from secondary schools come to universities. The quality of preparation of applicants will determine not only whether they enter university, but also whether they complete their studies. Such discussion platforms, where representatives of higher education institutions and schools communicate and find some common ground, are very important. Lobachevsky University pays a lot of attention to school education. One example is the UNN Specialised Education and Research Centre which works with gifted children. We have also started to implement an educational programme to train physics teachers. Today this is a very important task,” said Evgenia Chernykh, addressing the teachers.

The conference programme included six round tables on various topics ranging from effective practices of work with gifted children to cooperation between family and school.

“Last year we received a lot of positive feedback. We had some heated discussions. This time we have slightly adjusted the programme by increasing the number of round tables, there are more topics for discussion. The number of participants has also increased compared to last year. This shows that we are on the right track. We raise issues that are of interest to teachers, solve problems that can help them in their work. We hope to get feedback so that next year we can take into account all the wishes and suggestions,” noted Yulia Bureeva.

During the conference, teachers could also choose training areas of their interest and sign up for free professional development courses.
