Nowruz International Youth Festival held at UNN

The traditional event dedicated to the spring festival of Nowruz was held at the Conference Centre of the UNN Fundamental Library. The festival brought together international students from Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and other countries.

With the assistance of the UNN International Students Support Office and with the support of Lobachevsky University’s Arzamas branch administration, the international students prepared a colourful concert where they presented traditional songs and dances to the guests. The programme also included creative master classes where everyone could learn not only about the customs of this holiday, but also about some traditions of the countries where Nowruz is celebrated.

Nowruz is an ancient festival of many nations in the Middle East and Central Asia. The traditions and rituals associated with the festival symbolise the renewal of nature and man after a long winter. Nowruz festivities coincide with the day of the vernal equinox and therefore with the first day of the new agricultural year. In Farsi, Nowruz means "new day".
