President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeev opens the new academic year at Lobachevsky University

On September 1, the Day of Knowledge, a traditional meeting for students was held on the UNN campus to mark the beginning of the new academic year . The event was attended by student activists of UNN faculties and institutes, winners and medalists of various competitions and Olympiads.

Alexander Sergeev, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a graduate of Lobachevsky University, addressed the students with his greetings:

"I want to say that 5 years of study at the University were the most interesting years in my life. It is during the years of studenthood that a person becomes a personality, begins to be responsible for his actions and making his own decisions, makes friends. Having lived your life, you realize that the most devoted friends are those with whom you have passed your way as a student, who were near you at that time. And I want all those who gathered here and all students remember the time of their studies at Nizhny Novgorod University as their best years."

The Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Gleb Nikitin congratulated all the students and teachers in his video message. In his address, he noted that the University managed to quickly restructure its work from a face-to-face to an online format. "It was a difficult challenge, but you coped with it perfectly. I am sure that this temporary test did not affect the performance of the University, and also gave a new impetus to its development. It was the first time that admission procedures and admission tests were fully online. The importance of the University is evidenced by the increase in the number of state budget-funded places. This year, there are more than 3 thousand of such places, and more than 5 thousand new students have already come to study at the University this year, in fact, this is a whole city", said Gleb Nikitin.

"I congratulate all of us on the start of the new academic year, and on the fact that we have been able to begin face-to-face studies. Separate congratulations go to our teachers, who travel along this interesting road of knowledge hand in hand with you. Take this knowledge with care, value it, and then, when you begin working, employers will appreciate it," said Elena Zagayova, Rector of Lobachevsky University.
