Professional development courses for Russian language teachers from abroad
From 4 to 11 August 2024, Nizhny Novgorod is hosting professional development courses for teachers of Russian language and literature from among compatriots living abroad. More than 30 educators from secondary and secondary specialised educational institutions in Abkhazia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Serbia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and South Ossetia will gain new experience. They will be offered excursions, master classes and lectures on methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language from leading experts.
At the opening ceremony of the professional development courses in the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, Olga Guseva, Minister for International and Interregional Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod region, said that a rich programme has been prepared for teachers working in the foreign educational space, which will help to improve the level of teaching Russian language and literature and strengthen ties with the historical homeland. The training will take place at three leading universities of Nizhny Novgorod: Minin State Pedagogical University, Lobachevsky University and Dobrolyubov Linguistic University.
Oleg Trofimov, Rector of Lobachevsky University, noted that strengthening the role of the Russian language in the modern world is an important direction of Russia's humanitarian policy, and participation in its implementation is a strategic priority for Lobachevsky University.
"We are implementing a whole range of initiatives aimed at promoting the Russian language. Lobachevsky University has prepared a training module "Teaching Russian at the school stage", certification activities, individual consultations on relevant aspects of teaching for the training courses participants. The guests will also have an opportunity to visit the unique Botanical Garden of Lobachevsky University, where they will be able to explore the world of nature and see red-listed plant species," said Oleg Trofimov.
On August 6 and 7, the programme took place at Lobachevsky University. The university team has prepared the module "Teaching Russian at the school stage: content and structure of the course, teaching and methodological support, monitoring", as well as certification activities, individual consultations for participants on current issues of Russian language teaching.
On the first day of the course, the participants were welcomed by Alexander Bedny, UNN Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Networking. He noted that for the second year in a row the university gladly welcomed representative teams of Russian language and literature teachers and school heads from different countries. Alexander Bedny also made a presentation for the guests about the university, its research potential and international educational process.
In addition to lectures on methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language and special master classes, the teachers will be offered excursions to museums and exhibitions, in particular, a trip to the literary museum located in A.S. Pushkin's ancestral estate in the village of Bolshoye Boldino. The event is organised by the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod region with the support of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Rossotrudnichestvo.
