"Ready for admission!": foreign graduates of UNN preparatory department receive certificates
An official ceremony to mark the completion of the educational programme of the preparatory department for foreign citizens was held at Lobachevsky University. Those who successfully passed the final certification were awarded certificates confirming their readiness to study at Russian higher educational institutions. Alexander Bedny, Vice-Rector for International Affairs and External Communications, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech.
"Each of you has taken an important and responsible step — you have decided to pursue your studies in Russia. This journey requires considerable effort, patience, motivation, and determination. Over the course of the academic year at the preparatory department, you have accomplished a great deal: you have learned the Russian language, familiarized yourselves with the culture and traditions of this country, and acquired the necessary academic foundation. Today, you are ready to enter the university and discover new opportunities for yourselves. Acquiring knowledge and higher education is a major step forward. May the achievements you have attained serve as a strong base for your professional career and personal development," noted Alexander Bedny.
The preparatory department's educational programme lasted nine months and included intensive study of the Russian language, alongside specialised subjects that are necessary for admission to the university. In the 2024/2025 academic year, the preparatory department welcomed 112 international students from 41 countries, including Australia, Spain, South Korea, Turkey, China, Indonesia, Myanmar, Iraq, Iran, India, Palestine, Syria, and Latin American nations such as Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, and Ecuador. 20 African countries were represented this year, including Angola, Benin, Egypt, Cameroon, South Africa, Madagascar, and others.
"The certificate you have received today is a testament to your accomplishments and dedication. We are sincerely proud of you. You have become like a family to us this year. We wish you confidence, inspiration and success in your future endeavors," said Nailya Bakhtiarova, Head of the Centre for Educational Programmes for Foreigners.
Out of the total number of preparatory programme participants, 74 students were trained under the Russian Federation's state quota. 105 programme graduates have already decided to continue their education at Lobachevsky University.
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the teachers who gave us knowledge and provided support throughout our educational journey. The year of study at the preparatory department was not easy, but we achieved a lot. We studied Russian, a language that is both difficult and very beautiful. We studied hard and learned a vast amount of material. I wish all my classmates success in their further studies," said Mahmoud Ghadeer, a graduate of the preparatory department from Syria.
This training programme is an important element of Lobachevsky University's international activities. It is designed to attract international students and promote Russian education abroad. UNN notes the strong interest of foreign students in studying in Russia and continues to develop educational programmes tailored for international students.
