On November 23-24, the All-Russian research conference "Regions of the World: Problems of History, Culture, and Politics" was held at Lobachevsky University. It was organised by the Department of Regional Studies and Local History at the UNN Institute of International Relations and World History. More than 100 researchers from leading institutions of science and education attended the conference. Within the framework of thematic sections, a wide range of issues on the global and regional agendas was discussed.

At the session of the "Topical Issues of Armenian Studies" section, participants discussed the development of Armenian studies, including the history, culture, and religion of the Armenian people. They also discussed the challenges of maintaining the Armenian identity in the diaspora and potential solutions. and explored the dynamics of Armenia's foreign relations with Russia and Turkey, as well as Yerevan's foreign policy.

The "Euro-Atlantic Studies" section examined various aspects of regional and national security, foreign policy, humanitarian diplomacy, military mobility, economic and energy security, defence initiatives, as well as the activities of the EU, NATO, BRICS, and the EAEU. Discussion topics included internal political aspects of the countries in the Euro-Atlantic region, such as political leadership, political identity, and the specifics of political processes in different countries of Europe and America.

The "Middle East and Africa Studies" section, which represents the long-standing expertise of the Nizhny Novgorod school of Middle East studies, addressed issues such as the prevention of terrorism and extremism, the policies of major global powers (United States, Russia, and China) and international organizations (BRICS, United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organization). Special emphasis was placed on the Palestine-Israel conflict, African countries' political and economic development, and regional policies of Turkey, Iran, Syria, and Tunisia.

In the course of the session on "Problems of History and Politics of the Russian Regions", reports were presented on the economic life of Nizhny Novgorod monasteries and the economic and socio-political life of the provinces in the Volga region.Particular attention was also given to the regional history of the home front during World War I and the challenges of local self-government reforms in the outlying areas of the Russian Empire.

During the session on "Studies of the Asia-Pacific Region, Central Asia, and Transcaucasia", attendees discussed the current status of foreign and domestic policies in the People's Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Australia, and Azerbaijan, as well as Russia's role in BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and its cooperation with China, North Korea, and Vietnam across various domains.

The reports presented at the conference will be included in the collection of scholarly articles titled "Regions of the World: Problems of History, Culture and Politics" that will be published in 2026.
