Report on winter phytoplankton presented by UNN expert at a conference in India
Ekaterina Vodeneeva, Head of the UNN Department of Botany and Zoology and a leading researcher at the Algology Laboratory of the UNN Institute of Biology and Biomedicine, took part in an international conference dedicated to current issues in algology.
The event was organised at Benaras Hindu University (Department of Botany, Institute of Sciences) in Varanasi, India. The forum brought together more than 350 experts from 10 countries, serving as a reputable platform for discussing the biology of algae and cyanobacteria.
Ekaterina Vodeneeva was an invited speaker at the conference, presenting her report on the topic: «Winter phytoplankton and ice algae as components of freezing freshwater lakes». In her talk, she highlighted the significance of studying water bodies during the cold season, which provides a comprehensive understanding of aquatic ecosystem functioning and the response of such ecosystems to climate change.
Apart from her scientific presentation, the UNN representative led one of the conference's key sections and moderated a poster session where young researchers showcased their poster presentations.
Conference participants explored a broad spectrum of topics, including modern algal taxonomy, their applications in industry and biotechnology, as well as environmental monitoring issues.
