Employees of the UNN Faculty of Social Sciences took part in the annual conference of the British Association of Slavic and Eastern European Studies (BASEES Annual Conference 2019) in Cambridge (United Kingdom).

The conference, which gathered about 400 researchers from around the world, is traditionally held in the spring at Cambridge or in other leading British universities.

Faculty members of the Department of Sociology of Project Activities and Pro-Competitive Regulation and of the Research and Education Center for Social Systems Research made presentations on social development issues in provincial regions of Russia. 

Mikhail Teodorovich, Head of the Department, Alla Varyzgina, Deputy Head of the Department, and  Nina Ivashinenko, Head of the Research and Education Center,  told the conference participants  about various ways of establishing relations between non-profit organizations and local communities in Russia’s provincial regions. Associate Professor Alexander Soldatkin and Assistant Professor Natalia Patokina presented their reports on the ways to overcome conflicts and to establish cooperation between various social actors involved in urban development processes in large non-metropolitan cities of Russia.

Various topics concerning participation of NGOs in social development (for example, in the development of inclusive education) and urban development with the involvement of citizens were presented at the conference by academic community representatives from Nizhny Novgorod, Moscow, Saratov, Yekaterinburg, Malmo and Gotenburg (Sweden). Employees of Lobachevsky University took an active part in the discussion of their colleagues' reports.

In the course of the general discussion, the results of competition monitoring conducted by the Department of Sociology of Project Activities and Pro-Competitive Regulation and the Center for the Study of Social Systems in the framework of cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Development and Investment of the Nizhny Novgorod region were presented and discussed.
