A research internship for PhD students of Turan University (Kazakhstan) is taking place at Lobachevsky University from 10 May to 10 June 2023. The first group of Kazakhstani postgraduate students in law, economics, management and finance was invited for the internship within the framework of the agreements on cooperation between the universities in the field of research and academic mobility.

The guests were welcomed by Alexander Bedny, UNN Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Networking. He outlined the areas of Lobachevsky University’s international cooperation and emphasised that the visit of representatives of Turan University marks another important stage in the bilateral cooperation.

"I welcome you to Lobachevsky University and sincerely hope that the forthcoming month of internship at our university will be as productive as possible. We have a fruitful cooperation with Turan University for more than 10 years. We implement joint educational programs and research projects, exchange students as part of academic mobility, and hold conferences and forums together - both in Russia and in Kazakhstan. And I am very glad that your visit to UNN allows you to establish close ties with our scientists and creates new opportunities for developing joint research and educational projects between our universities," said Alexander Bedny.

The internship programme was developed by the UNN International Cooperation Office with the participation of the Centre for Educational Programmes for Foreigners. The programme  will include training in research writing methodology and consultations with  Lobachevsky University’s leading experts in the respective areas of PhD students' training. Besides, the doctoral candidates will participate in the advanced training programme "Project-oriented methods of teaching in higher education", which is headed by Valeria Mariko, Associate Professor of the UNN Department of University Management and Innovation in Education.

Yelmar Orazbek, a second-year PhD student at Turan University, came to Lobachevsky University to get advice on research in economics.

"Lobachevsky University has a good reputation. The academic advisors assigned to us have published significant articles and papers. My research is focused on the analysis of human capital in universities as the main factor for increasing competitiveness. There is a problem area in my work, it is quite extensive, and if I am given direction and help to answer the questions I am interested in, I will be able to finish my thesis without any problems," shared Yelmar Orazbek.

Seminars and introductory meetings will also be organised for PhD students at the Fundamental Library of Lobachevsky University and at the Institute of Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies.  They will also take part in the sections of the international scientific conference "Current trends in education development: the best Russian and international practices" (EduVolgaForum). At the end of the internship, Kazakhstani scholars will receive appropriate certificates.
