Rosatom's Director General Alexey Likhachev visits Lobachevsky University
On January 24, Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom State Corporation, visited Lobachevsky University. In the framework of the visit, Alexey Likhachev met with Elena Zagaynova, Acting Rector of Lobachevsky University. During the meeting, the parties exchanged proposals on strengthening cooperation between Rosatom departments and the University for implementing the National Technology Initiative program and other significant federal projects. The event was also attended by Valentin Kostyukov, Director of RFNC-VNIIEF, Rashit Shagaliyev, Deputy Scientific Director of RFNC-VNIIEF, First Deputy Director of ITMF for Mathematical Modelling and Computing Systems, Oleg Krivosheev, Deputy Director of RFNC-VNIIEF for Digital Products, and other representatives of Rosatom State Corporation, RFNC-VNIIEF, management and scientists of Lobachevsky University.
"The Government of the Russian Federation has entrusted Rosatom with the implementation of the national quantum program, including, among other things, the creation of a quantum computer. Lobachevsky University has experts working on such issues. I hope Lobachevsky University will take its rightful place in this program," said Alexey Likhachev.
As part of his visit, Alexey Likhachev visited Mathematical Research Department No. 63, which was established as a subdivision of the Institute of Theoretical and Mathematical Physics of the Russian Federal Nuclear Center. The work of this research unit is aimed at solving the tasks of the “Technoplatform 2035” Research and Education Center of the Nizhny Novgorod region: to develop and implement supercomputer modeling technologies in high-tech industries of the Russian Federation, and to develop the human resources potential required for this purpose.
"It is very important for the university that the CEO of Rosatom State Corporation Alexey Likhachev visits his alma mater. We have discussed the work and the prospects for the development of the Mathematical Research Department of the Sarov Nuclear Center, which operates at Lobachevsky University. We also touched upon the topic of social support for young professional being trained by the University for corporations of this level", said Elena Zagaynova.
Alexey Likhachev also visited the laboratory of extreme light fields at the UNN Faculty of Radiophysics, of which he is a graduate. Dean of the Faculty of Radiophysics Valery Matrosov told the guests about the Faculty’s life today, its current state, goals and objectives, research opportunities. Professor Mikhail Bakunov presented a report on the work of the petawatt laser complex for the EXCELS program, which operates at the UNN Faculty of Radiophysics.
