On November 8, the Committee on Science, Education and Culture of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly organized a round table to discuss the topic “On measures to increase the number of foreign citizens studying in educational institutions of higher education”. Those taking part in the round table included Vice-Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture V.M. Kress, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education M.A. Borovskaya, representatives of Rosobrnadzor, Rossotrudnichestvo and higher educational institutions involved in the training of international students. Lobachevsky University was represented by Alexander Bedny, Vice-Rector for International Affairs. The round table participants discussed the improvement of the regulatory framework concerning the admission and training of foreign citizens, the optimization of the system for recognition of Russian educational documents in foreign countries, some measures to increase the attractiveness of educational programs. Other discussion topics included retraining and professional development of foreign citizens in Russian educational organizations and research centers, as well as the development of the university infrastructure, which is required to effectively attract students from other countries. Based on the results of the round table, recommendations will be prepared to government agencies on the measures aimed at increasing the number of international students in Russian universities.
