Russian Week of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science in Kyrgyzstan
From October 6 to 11, Lobachevsky University will hold the Russian Week of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science for students and teachers from educational institutions of general secondary education in the Kyrgyz Republic. This event will be supported by the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo). The project aims to increase the attractiveness and promote Russian education in natural sciences and technical fields among graduates of Kyrgyz schools. It is also intended to strengthen and expand the use of the Russian language in Kyrgyzstan, which has official status there.
The activities of the Russian Week of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science will take place in a face-to-face format in schools in Naryn, Kochkorka, and At-Bashi, all situated in the Naryn region of Kyrgyzstan. The event will be attended by at least 300 students in grades 8 to 11 and 30 subject teachers from secondary general education institutions.
As notedby Oleg Trofimov, Rector of Lobachevsky University, the university is glad to have the opportunity to showcase its educational developments for teachers and students in Kyrgyz schools. This is especially significant because strong ties have been formed between UNN and educational institutions in Kyrgyzstan.
"Currently, 26 Kyrgyz citizens are studying at UNN, 23 of them were enrolled within the quota of the Government of the Russian Federation. Our university is actively developing ties with the research and educational communities of the Kyrgyz Republic. Currently, we have nine partnership agreements: eight with universities and one with a school. We are actively working together within the framework of the Eurasian Network University. In the autumn of 2024, we opened the Kyrgyz-Russian Research and Education Centre Lobachevsky Lab in Bishkek at the Institute of Innovative Professions. At this Centre, together with our Kyrgyz colleagues, we regularly hold scientific events, develop online educational programs, and implement mobility programs. I look forward to further developing cooperation with the Republic of Kyrgyzstan and I invite colleagues to participate in joint educational projects." said the Rector.
For this project, experts from Lobachevsky University have developed general education programmes in Russian: "Fun with Mathematics", "Fun with Physics", and "Fun with Computer Science". These programmes include lectures and practical exercises for school students. Additionally, specialised professional development programmes have been designed for subject teachers: "Innovative methods of teaching mathematics", "Innovative methods of teaching physics", "Innovative methods of teaching computer science". The classes will be taught by some of Lobachevsky University's most accomplished instructors.
During the Russian Week of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science in Kyrgyzstan, UNN's long-term experience of cooperation with Russian schools will be implemented through the cluster model of "school-university" classes, where university instructors simultaneously teach high school students and enhance the skills of school teachers. The use of innovative teaching models in science subjects will facilitate the transfer of pedagogical expertise and foster communication between the teachers of natural sciences at UNN and those in schools in the Kyrgyz Republic.
