The UNN Institute of International Relations and World History is preparing to open its School of Antiquity and Medieval Studies.


The School of Antiquity and Medieval Studies is a new educational initiative implemented in the format of a master's programme in the area of study “History”. Some of the best experts from Russian universities and academic centres are involved in the design and teaching of courses.

The school curriculum is designed to develop professional knowledge and skills in the history of the Ancient World, Middle Ages, Early Modern Times, as well as comparative study of the high civilizations of Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.

A particular emphasis is placed on familiarising students with modern approaches to working with various sources (textual, archaeological, iconographic, etc.) on the history of ancient and medieval societies, and on the study of classical languages (Latin and Ancient Greek).

The director of the Master's programme “School of Antiquity and Medieval Studies” is Dr. Alexander Makhlayuk, Head of the UNN Department of Ancient and Medieval History, Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation.
