Shantou University becomes the 20th Chinese partner university of UNN
On February 5, 2026, a delegation from Shantou University (China) paid a visit to Lobachevsky University. The guests were given a tour of the University Clinic, which is based at the UNN Institute of Clinical Medicine. During the tour, the parties discussed the prospects for cooperation between the universities. The visit was part of the celebration marking the 110th anniversary of Lobachevsky University.
In the course of the visit, two agreements were signed: on cooperation in the field of education and science and on academic exchange of students. The universities intend to share information, jointly publish research results, and organise conferences, seminars and scientific meetings. As part of the academic exchange programme, the partner universities commit to sending no more than five students to each other every year for up to 10 months to study in any available higher education programmes at the host university. Upon completion of their studies, the host university will provide students with a document listing all the subjects they have taken, their workload, grades, and the total number of hours completed.
"Both our universities are classical comprehensive educational institutions, and we have much in common.One of the key discussion points during the meeting was the plan to develop a joint residency programme in the field of Dentistry. Under this programme, Chinese students will spend six months acquiring basic knowledge and learning Russian at their home university. Following this, they will have the opportunity to study for a period of one and a half years atLobachevsky University and gain practical experience in Nizhny Novgorod’s municipal hospitals,"notedUNN Rector Oleg Trofimov.
Shantou University was established in 1981. It has approximately 13,000 full-time students. The university also comprises several hospitals and a Mental Health Centre. Shantou University is the twentieth educational institution in the People's Republic of China to sign a cooperation agreement with Lobachevsky University.
