The festival was organised by Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod and took place on May 5 at the grounds of the Nizhny Novgorod Trade Fair as part of the XVII All-Russian Choir Festival "Young Voices-2022". Students from Nigeria, Azerbaijan, Algeria, Morocco, Serbia, India, Colombia, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Iran, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China, South Korea, Turkey, El Salvador introduced Nizhny Novgorod residents to the culture, traditions and customs of their countries and gave a number of master classes. Under their guidance, festival guests created amulets for homes, practiced national dances, designed ornaments. They also had a chance to taste delicious sweets from different countries.

"This is the fifth time that the University of Nizhny Novgorod has held its international festival of cultures. This year, our students from 18 countries took part. Nearly 2,000 international students from 100 countries are currently studying at our university. Lobachevsky UniverSum is a wonderful platform for intercultural exchange, for bringing our students and the city's residents together. This year we are organizing it on the site of the Nizhny Novgorod Trade Fair. It is symbolic for us, as in the past the Fair hosted representatives of different nationalities, cultures and traditions. Our students are open to Nizhny Novgorod and to our city’s guests," said Alexander Bedny, UNN Vice-Rector for International Affairs.

Aysel Mamedova, a Lobachevsky University student, said that this is the second year she has taken part in the festival representing her country, Azerbaijan.

"Everything is very beautiful and the atmosphere is jubilant, as always. All of us, the whole team of our community, do our best to present our country, to share our stories about it with the guests of the festival. I have already made friends with students from Colombia, Ecuador, Uzbekistan, Iran, Iraq, and Egypt," said Aysel.

"We are from Venezuela. We really like this festival. We are having a great time. We met other guys from Latin America," added UNN student Maria Calmuc.

In total, 65 students represented their countries at the Lobachevsky UniverSum Festival.
