#STUDFACTCHECK project presented at the International Forum “Dialogue on Fakes 2.0”

Ludmila Makarova, Deputy Director of the UNN Institute of Philology and Journalism, Associate Professor at the Journalism Department, head of the UNN educational project on verification of media and social media information #STUDFAKTCHECK, and Ilya Pomerantsev, lecturer at the Journalism Department, Director of the Autonomous Nonprofit Organization “Centre for Development of Artificial Intelligence Expertise”, took part in the International Forum “Dialogue on Fakes 2.0”, which was held in Moscow.

At the plenary part of the Forum, the concept of the organisation was presented and a memorandum on the establishment of the Global Factchecking Network (GFCN), an international association for factchecking, was signed. In particular, its activities will be based on the provisions of the Code of Responsible Factchecking, which was created to unite the international factchecking community and define unified factchecking standards.

Since 2020, Lobachevsky University has been running the #STUDFACTCHECK project for verification of media and social media information, where students, under the guidance of teachers and experts, conduct independent research to verify reports and identify their reliability. The experience gained from the project can be used as a basic model in the process of developing a universal information verification system in Russia, including with the use of applied artificial intelligence technologies.

At the Forum, representatives of Lobachevsky University discussed opportunities for cooperation on the development of #STUDFACTCHECK as a project for information verification, including its educational component, as well as activities for developing the technology to automate individual stages of factchecking.
