On 25 April, the 6th International Conference “Current Trends in Education Development: Best Russian and Foreign Practices” was launched at Lobachevsky University.

Olga Petrova, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, greeted the conference participants. She emphasised the importance of the conference topic in relation to the ongoing changes in the Russian higher education system and thanked Lobachevsky University for maintaining the tradition of holding this event with the engagement of leading Russian and foreign universities. Olga Petrova also noted the high qualification of the conference participants, their interest in the development and improvement of the quality of Russian higher education.

On behalf of Lobachevsky University, the participants were addressed by the UNN Rector Oleg Trofimov. He expressed his appreciation to the partner universities for their joint fruitful work in organising the conference and noted that as a follow-up of last year's conference Lobachevsky University has developed and successfully implemented together with colleagues from Kazan National Research Technological University the educational project “Engineering Education in the Age of Change: Hybrid Learning, Microqualifications and Partnership in BRICS Format”. The project was supported by the Potanin Foundation. This project fits organically into the UNN development strategy for the training of engineering professionals. In December 2024, in accordance with the decree of the Russian Government, Lobachevsky University was named in the List of universities providing training of engineering personnel and research for technological leadership (in total, the list includes 38 universities in the Russian Federation).

More than 230 participants from 46 Russian and 7 foreign educational organisations registered for this year's conference, including more than 100 speakers for the plenary and breakout sessions.

The breakout sessions were held in a teleconference format on the following topics:

  •  “Artificial intelligence in education: transformation of educational programmes and teaching methods” (organised by Turan University (Kazakhstan, Almaty).
  •  “Modern Problems of Engineering Education” (organised by Kazan National Research Technological University).
  •  “Current socially-oriented educational trends in jurisprudence and interdisciplinary practice” (organised by the Department of Theory and History of Law and the Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law of Lobachevsky University).
  •  “Personnel Management in High-Tech Industries” (organised by the UNN Department of Personnel Management).

The second round of the conference will be held from April 26 to 30, on board the river cruise ship “Symphony of the North” which will sail along the route Nizhny Novgorod - Kostroma - Yaroslavl - Uglich - Moscow. The rich four-day program includes three plenary sessions, a co-working session “Problematic Aspects in the Development of Higher Education”, two master classes entitled “The New Subjectivity of Education” and “Talent Management: Strategies for the Development of Personal Talent in the Company” and discussion clubs according to the interests of the conference participants.
