The Union of Journalism Education of Chinese and Russian Universities holds its Forum in Beijing
Ludmila Makarova, Deputy Director of the UNN Institute of Philology and Journalism, Associate Professor of the Journalism Department, took part in the Forum of the Union of Journalism Education of Chinese and Russian Universities that was held at the People's University of China in Beijing. She made a report at the International Research Conference “Journalism Education in Russia and China in the Era of Intellectual Communication“ held as part of the Forum.
The Forum provided an opportunity to meet and discuss the prospects and opportunities for academic cooperation, as well as the development of joint educational projects, including the network forms for implementing bachelor's and master's degree programmes, academic mobility of students and teachers, and research internships.
“There are 719 higher education institutions in the People's Republic of China that teach courses of study related to journalism and mass communication theory. The Forum was attended by representatives of forty higher education institutions that top the ranking regularly compiled by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. While discussing the prospects of interaction between Chinese universities and Lobachevsky University, the following areas of possible cooperation were outlined: the project on verification of media and social media information #STUDFACTCHECK, the experience of the UNN Institute of Philology and Journalism in the development of fact-checking, as well as possible joint network programmes, including a new Master's programme “Artificial Intelligence and Data Journalism”, said Ludmila Makarova.
The Union of Journalism Education of Russian and Chinese Universities was established in 2016. Lobachevsky University is a member of this organisation from the very beginning. As it was stated during the discussion of the Union’s activities, the organisation aims to strengthen friendly ties between Russia and China, promote international cooperation, and enhance the international competitiveness of Chinese and Russian universities.
