The Russian Science Foundation has summarised the results of the 2024 competition of projects by individual research groups and the competition of interdisciplinary projects held pursuant to the presidential directive. Based on the results of the expert review, 546 projects were selected, including those carried out by scientists from Lobachevsky University. A total of 12.5 billion roubles was allocated to finance the winning projects in 2024-2027.

The Russian Science Foundation has supported three projects of UNN scientists:

  • "Mathematical theory of dynamic chaos and its applications" led by Dr. Sergei Gonchenko;
  • "Development of a bioorthogonal platform for targeted photodynamic therapy of oncological diseases" supervised by Dr. Alexei Fedorov, Professor of the UNN Department of Organic Chemistry;
  • "Development of technology and synthesis of high-purity polycrystalline gallium arsenide for producing electronic components for microwave electronics and laser technology" led by Dr. Leonid Mochalov, Head of the Research Laboratory of High-Purity Materials Technology at the UNN Research Institute of Chemistry.

"The competition of individual research group projects is a form of research support that is in demand in the scientific community. During the last few years we have seen an increase in the number of applications for this competition. This year, the competition included leaders of the completed "initial" projects of small groups. This also made the competition even more intense. According to experts' estimates, the number of eligible projects exceeds the initially approved total of 515, which is why the expert council recommended a larger number of projects," said Andrei Blinov, Deputy Director General of the Russian Science Foundation.

He also noted that 31 best interdisciplinary projects have been selected on the instructions of the President of Russia. The range of topics covers all branches of science.

In 2023, a total of 2,691 projects supported by the Russian Science Foundation within the framework of 8 competitions held in 2020-2022 were completed. According to the expert review, 98.9% of the projects were recognised as being successful.
