Intenational Conference “Universities and Sustainable Development: Implementing Agenda 2030” was held at the University of Turin (Italy) on May 15-17. Its aim was to consider the role of universities in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the Agenda 2030 approved by the UN General Assembly in September 2015. The discussion  focused on the following topics:

  • ·Universities as organizations and communities
  • ·The relation between the University, the city and local society
  • ·The role of Universities in implementing regional and national strategies towards Agenda 2030
  • ·The contribution of academia to the international debate on SDGs and Agenda 2030

Lobachevsky University was represented at the conference by Irina Leonova, Director of the UNN International Affairs Department, who presented her keynote speech "Sustainable employment in the era of ageing population: Case of Russia".

On May 17, the 8th meeting of the Working Group on Cooperation between Russian Universities - members of the Association of Global Universities and the Conference of Rectors of Italian Universities (CRUI) was also held in Turin. This meeting was organized by the University of Turin. Vice-rectors for international relations, heads of international departments, coordinators of activities of working groups from Russian and Italian universities discussed the implementation of network international projects and the exchange of best practices in the field of research, education and innovation. During the meeting, the cooperation agreement between the Association of Global Universities and the Conference of Rectors of Italian Universities was extended for a new term.
