UNN delegation presents R&D results at Young Scientists’ Congress in Sochi
A delegation from Lobachevsky University presented research and development results at the Third Congress of Young Scientists, which took place in Sochi. One of the official partners of the Congress was the Nizhny Novgorod Research and Education Centre.
The Congress is a major annual event of the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia, announced by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in 2022 as part of the national project "Science and Universities". The key theme of the Third Congress of Young Scientists is "Opportunities and Development Space".
UNN scientists demonstrated a system for cognitive age assessment. This is a computer programme that performs assessment based on cognitive tests and artificial intelligence algorithms. The system is used to determine a person's cognitive status and to diagnose accelerated cognitive ageing and risks of cognitive pathologies development at an early stage.
One more R&D project demonstrated at the congress was a prototype of a coprocessor for a neuromorphic computing system based on memristor matrices. This is an advanced solution in the field of memristive or non-volatile resistive memory devices also known as RRAM (Resistive Random-Access Memory) which serve as new components for micro- and nanoelectronics. The parameters of memristive devices and circuits, as well as the demonstrated possibility of their CMOS integration have made it possible to develop a prototype of a hardware-software complex that implements vector-matrix multiplication operations in analogue form for hardware acceleration of neuromorphic calculations.
"The Third Congress of Young Scientists can be considered the key event of the current year in Russian science. Perhaps, this is the only platform where experts from all areas of research in Russia were able to be together at the same time and communicate freely. It was also possible to attend the presentations of leading figures in fundamental and applied science, popularisers of science, and officials of foundations involved in the funding of science. What was particularly memorable was the exhibition, where leading universities, academic institutions, state corporations and private companies took part. One could see first-hand the research projects that are currently underway," said Maxim Bolotov, Associate Professor of the Department of Control Theory and System Dynamics at the UNN Institute of Information Technology, Mathematics and Mechanics.
