On December 12-14, the International theoretical and practical conference on educational problems “Higher Education Going Global: Contemporary Challenges for Educational Science and Practice” was held at the University of Siena (Italy). The aim of the Conference was to bring scholars, researchers and managers to explore and discuss what globalization has meant and means in terms of growing learning opportunities and shared educational standards, and the role of higher education in the so-called “knowledge society”. Lobachevsky University representatives took part in the Conference and made their presentations: “Raising Global Innovators as a Key Function of Leading Universities” (Alexander Bedny and Alexander Grudzinsky) and “Values of Russian Employees in Education Sector and Students as a Mirror for Transformation Processes in Russian Economy and Society” (Irina Leonova).

The Conference took place in conjunction with the VII meeting of the Russian-Italian Working Group
for collaboration between Russian universities - members of the Association of Global Universities and the Conference of Italian University Rectors (CRUI). The aim of the Working Group established in January 2016 within the framework of the Agreement of Cooperation signed on May 14, 2015 in Saint-Petersburg is to maintain and promote efficient, systematic and sustainable educational, research and cultural collaboration of the leading Italian and Russian universities. Such meetings are held twice a year, starting from 2015. Lobachevsky University was represented at the meeting by Vice-Rector for International Affairs Alexander Bedny, Director of the Institute of Economics and Entrepreneurship Alexander Grudzinsky and Director of the International Affairs Department Irina Leonova. During the meeting, specific plans and prospects for cooperation between universities in Russia and Italy were discussed.
