From October 16 to October 19, the University of Strasbourg hosted the workshop "European Union and Transnational Security Threats: Law, Policies, Practices". The workshop was held within the framework of the Erasmus Plus - Jean Monnet project "The EU Approaches to Transnational Security: A Focus on Learning and the Use of Experience" (EUSECU-POLE), which is being implemented at the UNN Department of European and International Law (grant manager A.S. Leonov). The event was organized by the Law Faculty of Lobachevsky University in cooperation with the University of Strasbourg and the University of Paris 13. The main goal of the workshop was to develop in-depth knowledge of the project’s subject, as well as appropriate skills in the methods of teaching EU law among teaching staff of Russian universities. The seminar was attended by faculty members of the UNN departments of European and International Law, Civil Law and Civil Procedure, Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure, practicing lawyers of Nizhni Novgorod, as well as representatives of the Kutafin Moscow State Law University, the Russian University of Peoples' Friendship and the Kazan Federal University. Professors of universities of Strasbourg, Lyon, Montpellier, Catania, and the Free University of Brussels delivered expert lectures. Participants of the training also visited the European Parliament, the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights. UNN representatives took part in the round table "The EU and the challenges of security: from crisis to recovery?" discussing EU measures to respond to the migration crisis, the new EU approaches to fighting terrorism, the crisis of solidarity in the EU, the possibilities for developing EU cooperation with third countries and the EU experience in combating transnational threats to security.
