UNN delegation visits Lebanon and Syria
From February 4 to February 8, a delegation of leading Nizhny Novgorod universities visited Lebanon and the Syrian Arab Republic. The visit was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod region and the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Beirut. Lobachevsky University was represented by Dr. Sergei Pyatkin, Director of the UNN Arzamas branch, and Igor Komarov, Assistant Director of the Institute of International Relations and World History. During its Middle East tour, the UNN delegation met with the Syrian Minister of Higher Education Bassam Ibrahim and held a consulting session for Syrian university applicants intending to take part in the competitive selection for the studies in Russia within intergovernmental quotas of the Russian Federation. According to the Deputy Minister of Higher Education of Syria, Abedlmunir Najem, these quotas will support the training of professionals in all areas, which is especially important in the post-war period. “It is vitally important to restore our personnel in the fields of medicine and engineering,” said Abedlmunir Najem. Lobachevsky University also took part in an educational exhibition organized with the assistance of the Rossotrudnichestvo Representative Office in Lebanon, and in a number of working meetings with the leadership of the major universities in Lebanon and Syria (Lebanese University, Lebanese International University, Lebanon University of Arts, Sciences and Technologies, Damascus University, Tishrin University), with representatives of youth organizations and the Ministry of Health of Lebanon. During the visit, the delegation discussed the development of international scientific and educational cooperation in the field of education export, academic exchanges, joint projects and summer schools to be held at Lobachevsky University.
