From November 27 to November 30, 2017, a UNN delegation comprising Alexander Bedny, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Victor Kazantsev, Vice-Rector for Research and Irina Leonova, Head of the UNN International Office, visited three leading universities in Spain that are partners of Lobachevsky University: Complutense University of Madrid, Madrid Polytechnic University and University of Valencia.
During the visit to the Complutense University of Madrid, the UNN delegation held talks with the Vice-Rector for Internationalization Prof. Isabel Duran and Vice-Rector for Science Policy, Research and Doctorate Degrees Prof. Ignacio Lizasoain. The Counselor-Envoy ??Mr. Dmitry Sokolov and the First Secretary of the Embassy ??Mr. Sergei Bondarenko were present at the talks as official representatives of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Kingdom of Spain. The parties discussed the results of the ongoing scientific and educational cooperation, and reached a number of specific agreements for the near future, including the joint organization of an interdisciplinary Spanish-Russian seminar during the Volga Neuroscience Meeting in July 2018, joint participation in the next round of the Erasmus Plus program, the support for academic exchanges of teaching staff members, postgraduates and students in the field of biomedicine, biotechnology, information technology, neurotechnology, neuroscience and microelectronics.
In the course of a meeting with the leadership of the Madrid Polytechnic University, an agreement was reached regarding similar arrangements to support academic exchanges in the field of biomedicine, biotechnology, information technology, neurotechnology and joint participation in the next round of the Erasmus Plus program. The parties also confirmed their intentions to organize an interdisciplinary Spanish-Russian seminar in March - April 2018 in Madrid and in September-October 2018 - in Nizhny Novgorod.
The delegation also visited the University of Valencia, where UNN representatives and their Spanish colleagues agreed to organize student exchanges, including semester-long programs and summer schools, and the mutual exchange of teachers of Russian and Spanish. In the future, it is planned to expand exchanges to such areas as physics and molecular biology.
Thus, Lobachevsky University continues to expand relations in the field of education and science with leading Spanish universities. To date, Lobachevsky University has partnered with 10 Spanish universities, including those mentioned above, as well as the University of Granada, University of Huelva, University of Santiago de Compostela, University of Rovira and Virginia, University of Alcala, Institute of Exchange Education and University of Oviedo.
