UNN delegation visits the University of Duisburg-Essen
At the invitation of the Essen city administration, a delegation of Lobachevsky University visited the University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany) on June 19-22. During their visit to Essen, the UNN delegation comprising Rector E.V. Chuprunov, Vice-Rector T.N. Bespalova and Director of the Institute of Biology and Biomedicine M.V. Vedunova held a meeting with Prof. Barbara Buchenau at the Advisory Board on International Academic Exchanges of the Duisburg-Essen University to discuss the development of cooperation under the existing agreement between the two universities. In particular, the discussion was focused on increasing student, educational and cultural exchanges, and organizing a "Double Degree" project.
The members of the UNN delegation got acquainted with the activities of the Institute of Medical Radiobiology of the Duisburg-Essen University. Agreements were reached on cooperation in the field of cytogenetics and molecular radiobiology. This interaction should result in establishing a new research area related to clinical genetics at Lobachevsky University.
An important meeting was held at the City Hall with the leadership of the city of Essen, where, among other things, the issues of ecology and environmental preservation were discussed. In 2017, Essen was recognized as Europe’s "green" capital thanks to a number of its environmental programs, in particular, aimed at cleaning small rivers and reservoirs under the jurisdiction of the municipality. This experience can be studied and used by the experts of the UNN Department of Ecology.
The delegation also visited the Center for teenagers and young people in a difficult life situation. At this center, young people get education and professional skills and successfully undergo socialization with the active assistance of qualified experts. The purpose of this particular visit was not only to get acquainted with the successful municipal educational and social experience, but also to see the place where Lobachevsky University students pass their practice as social workers within the framework of the agreement between the universities and the Russian-German Meetings Society.
The UNN delegation highly appreciates the warm welcome extended by the leadership of Essen and by their colleagues from the University of Duisburg-Essen and expresses the hope for further fruitful cooperation.
