UNN Faculty of Biology celebrates its centenary
The centenary of the Faculty of Biology (now, the Institute of Biology and Biomedicine, IBB) of Lobachevsky University was celebrated on December 2 at the Forum of graduates of the UNN Faculty of Biology. Alumni from various years came to congratulate their Alma Mater on this remarkable date. Biology faculty members, alumni and students, in their turn, were congratulated by UNN Rector Evgeny Chuprunov and Head of the IBB Department of Experimental and Nuclear Medicine Sergey Romanov.
The Institute of Biology and Biomedicine (IBB) was established in December 2014 by merging the UNN Faculty of Biology, the Research Institute of Living Systems, the Research Institute "Botanical Garden" and the Research Institute of Molecular Biology and Regional Ecology. The aim of the merger was to improve the quality of biology education in accordance with modern requirements and to increase the demand for IBB graduates in the Russian and international labor market. The Institute of Biology and Biomedicine has 3 research centers where research projects are carried out in close cooperation with the departments of the Institute. This system ensures students’ easy integration into the research environment and access to knowledge at the forefront of science. Students are offered internship opportunities at IBB research centers and in the laboratories of the University’s partners. An important part of the Institute's activities is to develop and commercialize biotechnologies, in particular biomedical and neuro-technologies. Given the current global trends, business in the field of biotechnology can become one of the main drivers of the country’s economy in the near future. The Institute of Biology and Biomedicine that continues the traditions of Lobachevsky University’s Faculty of Biology has formed the ecosystem "education - science - bioindustry". With this system, its students get the most advanced level of knowledge and skills that provides excellent employment prospects.
