UNN IITMM professor appointed to head an international journal
Yaroslav Sergeyev, Professor of the UNN Institute of Information Technology, Mathematics and Mechanics, has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of the international scientific journal Operations Research Forum published by Springer.
Prof. Yaroslav Sergeyev has been a member of the journal's editorial board since its launch in 2019. He has extensive experience in the editorial boards of journals in applied mathematics and computer science, including three Russian and 12 international journals. He is also a member of the editorial board of the Emergence, Complexity and Computation book series issued by Springer Publishers.
Yaroslav Sergeyev is well known in Russia and abroad for his breakthrough results in two fields of research. The first one, methods for solving global optimization problems, originated in the 1970s in the works of Soviet and Russian scholars such as Y.G. Evtushenko, A.A. Zhigliavsky, A. Zhilinskas, S.A. Piyavsky, A.S. Strekalovsky, and R.G. Strongin. The second research area, numerical computations with infinitely large and infinitely small quantities, was initiated by Yaroslav Sergeyev in the early 2000s.
Professor Sergeyev's research results have been highly recognised internationally. He was awarded the Constantine Caratheodori and Gioachino da Fiore Prizes (2023), the Iranian Government Prize (2017), the Pythagoras Prize (2010), and the prize of the Nauka International Academic Publishing Company for the monograph “Diagonal Methods of Global Optimization” which he wrote jointly with Dmitry Kvasov. In 2020, Yaroslav Sergeyev was elected a corresponding member of the Italian Academy of Sciences in Messina.
