UNN international students take part in the strategic session "I care - I can"
On Monday, December 23, Lobachevsky University students took part in the strategic session of the Program of international students’ social initiatives "I care - I can". The meeting was moderated by Dmitry Medvedev, director of the Program "I care - I can", Deputy Head of the UNN International Students Office. During the event, foreign students from Austria, Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Cote D'Ivoire, Morocco, Serbia, Sudan, Uzbekistan and the Philippines summed up the results of the work carried out within the project lines of the program, including volunteering, socio-cultural interaction, sports, and activities aimed at the adaptation and socialization of foreign citizens coming to Lobachevsky University. An analysis was performed of the program’s effectiveness and the need was emphasized to develop new vectors that are important for expanding cross-cultural dialogue between representatives of different countries and nations with communities of Nizhny Novgorod and the Nizhny Novgorod region. The session participants noted that the program has great integration potential as it helps international students feel more confident and comfortable in a new environment.
The goals of the Program of international students’ social initiatives "I care - I can" are to promote tolerance in society and to improve the culture of communication with foreigners, to remove barriers to inter-ethnic communication, and to counter the ideas of extremism, racial intolerance and xenophobia. The program participants are foreign students who develop social and cultural projects and implement them through intercultural dialogue at various sites in Nizhny Novgorod. The program "I care - I can" was included in the shortlist of nominees and laureates of the National Prize "Civic Initiative" and was awarded an honorary diploma during a ceremony held on December 1 in Moscow.
