The 2nd Festival of the Russian Language, Russian Science and Culture started in Mexico City on 23 November 2023. The event is organised by the Rossotrudnichestvo Representative Office in Mexico together with the Autonomous Metropolitan University of Mexico.

As part of the festival, Lobachevsky University, with the support of the Latin American-Russian Association, is holding the Week of Russian Language, Science and Culture in Mexico. It takes place from 27 November to 2 December and brings together students and university applicants from Latin American countries who wish to study Russian and get acquainted with Russian culture, Russian universities and their professors. During the week, UNN teachers of Russian will conduct online classes aimed at introducing foreigners to the Russian language and Russian culture.

A round table will be also organised for Russian language teachers from different countries on practical issues of teaching Russian to speakers of other languages. The final event will conclude with summing up the results of a poetry recitation competition in Russian. The competition jury includes teachers of Russian as a foreign language from Lobachevsky University.

"This is the second year that our university is a participant of the Festival and co-organiser of the "Week of Russian Language, Science and Culture" in Mexico. Last year's experience demonstrated that the project sparks interest among Latin American high school and college students: more than 100 persons took part in the event last year. This year, the teachers of Lobachevsky University have developed a new online course aimed at introducing young people from far-away Latin America to Russian culture. The teachers will also hold several open online lectures in English for school students," said Alexander Bedny, UNN Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Networking.

According to Alexander Bedny, Latin America is one of the priority regions for recruiting applicants to Lobachevsky University. Currently, more than 150 students from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Venezuela, Guatemala, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Ecuador, Chile and Venezuela are studying at the university.
